Oracle User Productivity Kit
User Productivity Kit is a simulation production and publishing tool from Oracle, which recently purchased the company that developed UPK, Global Knowledge. After you record a transaction in your target software application, you can generate four different playback modes (non-interactive See It! mode, interactive Try It! mode, interactive-with-scoring Know It? mode, and interactive context-sensitive-help Do It! mode). A fifth mode, Print It!, lets you decide whether to include a link to a printed version of the simulation.
You can also generate six different kinds of printed documentation: a Business Process document, a Job Aid, a Training Guide, an Instructor Manual (a Training Guide with instructor notes), a Test document for manual testing, or an HP Quality Center document (a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to be used for importing the steps into the HP Quality Center automated testing software).
You can publish your information in several different ways, including as a package compatible with a Learning Management System, but the most popular method is to generate a Player package with a hierarchical tree arranged by course and by topic.
These days, UPK has even better object recognition, and is able to correctly apply labels to fields and buttons in a variety of software applications, especially browser-based applications. Its greatest strength, however, is the ability to generate a lot of content very quickly, with a minimum of manipulation from the author.
UPK is a terrific tool for those looking to get the most bang for their buck. It's one of the many tools that Intelligo uses to create e-learning content for its clients.
